A. Caroline Hotaling

Program Officer, Capacity Building

Caroline Hotaling brings over 20 years of nonprofit work to her position as Program Officer at the Ms. Foundation. As a grassroots activist on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona/Sonora for almost a decade, she was a Clinton appointee to the International Subcommittee of the EPA's National Environmental Justice Advisory Council. Caroline was a member of the team that founded the Cochise Community Foundation, and Environmental Health Co-Chair of a PAHO-affiliated binational health council. She later ran a county-wide anti-violence coalition of 20 organizations in rural southeastern Arizona while also serving on the boards of a local halfway house and collective theater company.

Caroline serves on the Charting Impact Advisory Group of Independent Sector-Better Business Bureau; the immigration enforcement advisory committee of Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees; and the advisory group for the Grantmakers for Effective Organizations Field Study on Trends in Grantmaking.

Before joining the Ms. Foundation staff in 2004, Caroline served as a consultant on its New Partners Initiative for Comprehensive Sex Education. Caroline is an avid meditator who grew up queer in the rural Adirondack Mountains of New York State and currently lives in Brooklyn. She holds a Bachelor's in Landscape Architecture (B.L.A.) with an emphasis in rural planning from SUNY ESF.
