Conference Call: What's This About the 14th Amendment?

Image
2011
On a conference call moderated by Ms. Foundation Program Officer Caroline Hotaling a range on grantees spoke about the recent attacks to the 14th Amendment and the impact of women and families.

Immigrant women across the country are mobilizing to fight the combined attacks on immigrant and reproductive rights. Despite the fact that the attack on the 14th Amendment and "birthright citizenship" is squarely aimed at women's bodies and their reproduction, less than 10% of media stories about immigration use the word "mother" or even refer to women. We have an opportunity to amplify the voice of immigrant women and now is the time to act. The Ms. Foundation seeks to support immigrant women leaders to come together with their allies, and stop these assaults on the US Constitution.

Speakers on this call include:
Jessica González-Rojas, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health
Miriam Yeung, National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum
Isabel Garcia, Coalición de Derechos Humanos
Chris Newman, National Day Laborer Organizing Network
